The rift between man and beast is growing deeper.

Skye's ancestors were brought to life by an ancient spirit under the light of a blood moon.
Her father commands a legion of vengeful shapeshifters, the Lìog Airgid, in their fight against an entity that seeks to eliminate them from the face of the earth.

As time grows short and hope becomes sparse, Skye must learn the truth.
For only the Spiritborne have the means to end the centuries-old war and bring balance between shapeshifters and humanity itself.

From word 'go' it's a pacy read, with plenty of tension and the feeling that you're part of this adventure with Skye.
- D Massey

An exciting, well-crafted story from the start. The author paints a vivid picture of both her characters and the worlds they inhabit, making this an enjoyable, pacey read.

Spiritborne is a fantasy that will delight all ages.

This was a fantastic read! I love books that keep me on the edge of my seat and turning pages, and this book definitely accomplished that.

Despite having a YA heroine, this is not just another one-dimensional YA fantasy. There are whole families of characters whose paths are interwoven by the need to deal with arrogant and powerful enemies whose misguided notions of their own importance are at odds with the spirit of nature itself.

“So, this Ritual,” I begin. “If it’s successful… It would mean the end of anyone that happens to have Lycan blood.”

“Yes.”

“And what about…” I glance over at Sejka, wanting to ask whether or not the Yeva’si are affected.

David seems to read my mind. “The origin of Lycans isn’t the same as that of Sejka’s tribe; Lycans were bound to wolf form during the First Ritual. They called their first alpha Mac Tíre - it’s Irish for ‘Son of the Land’.”

At this, Sejka adds, “My ancestors’ shapeshifting began in a different way. They say it began with a blessing from each of the animals, granting us access to their forms. We call ourselves the Yeva’si, which means ‘Nature’s children’. One spirit, in particular, was important in this ceremony. According to legend, this spirit was called the Ru-Yeva, or Guardian of Nature.”

“Spooky,” David comments.

“Not spooky; enchanting. The Ru-Yeva is like a deity to the Yeva’si people, and he is reincarnated through the generations. There must always be a Ru-Yeva.”

“What does he look like?” I ask.

Sejka thinks for a moment. “There is no way to tell,” she says softly. “It is but a legend.”

Meet the shapeshifter races:

Lycan
Son of the Land
Picture
Founded by the loyal and fun-loving Mac Tíre, this race of werewolf-like creatures has always stuck together and looked out for each other when times were tough. The first Lycans were Druids and their first transformation occurred in ancient England on the eclipse of a blood moon.
Yeva'si
Child of Nature
Picture
The Yeva'si are able to shapeshift to any animal form. They were created by a wise and mysterious trickster spirit called Ru-Yeva, meaning 'Guardian of Nature'. This spirit has lived among the tribes of western Canada for centuries.

Ddraig
Great Welsh Beast
Picture
The fierce and brave red dragons of Wales were believed to have been hunted to extinction centuries ago, but they are beginning to resurface. Their creator Nwyfre, however, is still missing. Some believe he does not want to be found...
